Chulita is an Alta-California-style modern Mexican restaurant and mezcal/tequila bar born in the heart of Venice Beach, now bringing botanas y mezcales, or Mexican drinking food to local neighborhoods across Los Angeles and beyond. Their Venice space, which opened its doors in 2018, has become a true neighborhood locale, evoking the character and traditions of Mexico interwoven with the distinctive essence of its rich surrounding community. At the end of 2023, they opened their newest location in Mid-City, seeking to create that same sense of connection over shared plates and craft cocktails in the historic neighborhood of West Adams. They wanted to extend Chulita to communities beyond their restaurant venues, and so recently added a Taco Truck to the team in order to bring their elevated tacos, burritos, and shared bites to the streets of LA.

Meet Shireen Imani

Chulita was born out of a need for connection. After moving to Venice Beach, Chulita’s founder and owner Shireen Imani felt a yearning for something that was inherent in the Nolita neighborhood from where she came – a deep sense of community. Her answer? A casual, local spot that would showcase mezcal and tequila and bring the neighborhood together. And so with the help of her group of friends, Chulita was born – an elevated yet welcoming modern Mexican restaurant and bar with a menu of contemporary, Oaxacan-inspired shareable plates and cocktails/spirits that highlight the artisanal and authentic agave spirits from across Mexico.
